Itinerary
At the wilderness reserve you are free to make decisions on a whim and try out all of the activities in any order you wish to try them. We have, however put together an itinerary to show just a few ways you could spend your days.
THURSDAY An early departure from your hometown will ensure you reach Vancouver by noon. Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative and escorted to the domestic air terminal. Enjoy a 45-minute private chartered flight over the untamed gulf islands and Vancouver Island Mountain Range arriving in Tofino at the Outpost where you will be greeted by your hosts, serving a welcoming drink. Explore in the afternoon with a trip horseback through lush prehistoric forests with giant plants and trees (with 40ft diameter trunks) to Bear City, an abandoned mining town from the gold rush days. Relax in the evening around the bar, swapping adventure tales with other dwellers or for something more intimate, try out the wood fired sauna or secluded hot tub.
FRIDAY Awake to the smell of fresh coffee, delivered to your tent every morning. Today, you will take a trip to Flores Island for a mix of kayaking, sightseeing and hiking along volcanic shoreline and old growth forests, where you will visit Nuu-Chah-Nulth Village, site of the Ahousaht First Nations tribe. Spend your evening in the heart of the Outpost, the new ranch style cookhouse, with its towering double-sided fieldstone fireplace, outdoor lounge, showpiece open kitchen, and wrap around viewing decks. Chef May presides over the 40ft long open kitchen bar, serving up an ever-changing menu of his critically acclaimed modern natural cuisine. Choose a seat at the bar for a casual (no less fabulous) evening, or a view table when a floor-to-ceiling window on the wild is on the menu.
SATURDAY Early breakfast followed by a half-day fishing charter for halibut and giant steelhead salmon (the area has the world’s largest population of steelhead). After you’ve caught your fill of fish, return to the lodge for lunch followed by a guided whale watching tour almost guaranteeing sightings of humpback, grey, or killer whales as well as seals and sea lions. Unwind in the evening with an exquisite dinner followed by a mind melting spa treatment of your choice.
SUNDAY Start the day early with a beautiful morning hike through cascading meadows and trees outlining the property followed by a farewell breakfast at the lodge. Depart on seaplane charter back over the islands and Vancouver mountain ranges to Vancouver International Airport where you will catch your return flight home.
